Cross-country Skiing in Chamonix

chamonix cross-country skiing

Chamonix - Mont Blanc is one of the best places in France to practice cross-country skiing due to the excellent snow conditions and the beauty of the surroundings. There are two main cross country skiing areas that offer both traditional and skating circuits, accessible for all levels.

The circuit from Chamonix to Le Bois is great to get you started, snow conditions permitting. For a tranquil circuit you can begin at Argentiere and follow a route through the pine forests and pass Le Lavancher. These circuits meet up when the snow depth is right and you can cover 42km of trails!  Vallorcine is a great place to spend a day on the 10 km of cross-country ski trails , starting from the X-Country Ski Center, or from Le Buet. Circuit in an authentic and colourful setting, along the Eau Noire river, surrounded by woody and hilly landscapes, perfect for beginners and intermediate skiers.

You can break the trail by having a picnic in one of the many picturesque places you’ll find on your way; sunbathing on a rock or sitting in the shade of one of the many pine trees. Access to the resorts for one day is not expensive, but if you are planning on going every day then you’ll save money by buying a weekly ticket. There are several ski schools in the Mont-Blanc valley that offer cross-country skiing lessons for both adults and children.
