Here at Chamonix Holidays we can assist you with directions and transport information to make your day trip unforgettable!

Courmayeur in Italy

Courmayeur is a great choice for a day trip when the weather is poor in Chamonix. Courmayeur is 40mins by car from Chamonix and is easy to get to - straight through the Mont Blanc Tunnel into the bright blue skied Italian side of Mont Blanc.  It is famous for its Italian scenery with picturesque mountain ranges. Courmayeur's ski resort is renowned for its tree lined runs and lots of easy slopes for family cruisers, but also is a paradise for off-piste skiing for technical skiers and snowboarders. For children there are 3 conveyor belt lifts, snow tubes, inflatable and soft games and ski school instructors that will entertain and occupy your children for the day.

You don’t need to pack a lunch as the restaurants are not only plentiful, they represent everything that is great about eating in the Italian mountains: hot chocolate so thick that you have to finish it with a spoon, risottos with shavings of truffles, succulent fresh pasta, lavish spreads of home-made desserts and south-facing sun terraces full of Italians.

Courmayeur is also a delightful old town, with the best shopping in the Val d'Aosta. Window shopping along the cobbled streets is like a who's who of the fashion world: Hermes, Cartier and Prada to name but a few. The same goes for the après ski. Disco 'til dawn, or sit back and sip some local wine. You will discover that there really is something for everyone here.

Les Contamines

The village of Les Contamines nestles at the foot of the Mont Blanc at an altitude ranging between 1164m and 2890m. The ski area offers various opportunities for all different levels of skier/snowboarder and boasts great sunshine and excellent natural snow conditions. The slopes wind down between pine forests, wide runs, old farm buildings and chalets covering 120kms with superb panoramic views.

To get here from Chamonix you pass through Saint Gervias and take a mountain road up to the village, By car this journey will take approximately 45mins.

Megeve is a world famous ski resort where you can expect a warm family-friendly welcome and activities and sports for all ages ranging from skiing to curling to fine dining restaurants. The village exudes charm and the magic word is ‘luxury’. The Megeve ski area boasts 300kms of marked trails offering extensive terrain for all skiers and snowboarders of all levels. There are 2 snow parks and a half-pipe as well as ski schools for children. After skiing you can stroll through the medieval alleyways and check out the warm cosy pubs, Michelin Star restaurants and over 200 chic boutiques including Hermès, Prada, Escada, Hugo Boss.

To reach Megeve by car it is approximately 45mins from Chamonix.

Verbier in Switzerland

Part of the Four Valleys, Verbier is a skier’s paradise offering extensive pisted skiing, amazing off-piste itineraries and an excellent snow park.  It is the closest Swiss ski resort to Chamonix that takes approximately 1hr 30mins to get there by car.

Due to Verbier’s high altitude and glacier the snow is fantastic and there is something to suit skiers and boarders of all levels. It is a great place to do some ski touring on the glacier behind Mt Fort (3,330m) or ski across 400kms of terrain interlinking the Four Valleys. When the sun goes down, the legendary Verbier après ski will keep you dancing well into the small hours!
