Mountain Biking

Chamonix mountain biking

Chamonix has become a haven for mountain bikers in the summer and here at Chamonix Holidays we have rental properties that can accommodate you and your bike!  Use our Accommodation Search and Refine Your Search choosing 'Bicycle Storage'.

Chamonix offers cross-country trails for beginners to intermediate riders and also more advanced technical steep descents. Each summer there are more and more VTT downhill mountain bike trails being designed with lift access to the descents. The Chamonix valley's trails vary in length between 7 km and 30 km, the longest being Chamonix-Le Tour-Chamonix.

The Chamonix summer lift system is perfect for gaining altitude. Les Houches is home to over 5 purpose made VTT downhill trails that offer North Shore jumps and tracks as well as a bike park. Chamonix also has well maintained VTT downhill trails on the Vallorcine side of the Le Tour resort accessed by the Telecabine. You can pick up a free pamphlet from the Tourist Office detailing cross-country mountain bike and VTT trails in the Chamonix valley.

For the ‘roadies’ amongst you there is great access to cycle some of the Tour de France Cols as well as cycling through the neighboring valleys to Switzerland with the option to return on the train.

If you need to rent a bike in Chamonix there are two well equipped stores Zero G and Legends on the edge of town. Zero G offer a full range of hardtail, cross-country and full suspension bikes as well as road bikes and servicing.

For twenty years we've been sending people who rent bikes from us on the trail that we call The Chamonix Classic.
It's a sprawling, technical trail has some punishing climbs but beautiful, flowing, rewarding descents. The main advantage is that it's easy to turn back at any point if you feel you've bitten off more than you can chew!

From Chamonix, simply follow the river to Les Bois, passing the helicopter landing pad on your left. When you see the white signs for Le Lavancher, head up the 4X4 track to this high village. Come down the road until you hit the stop sign, turn right, then go up through the meadow on the Petit Balcon Nord until you get to Argentiere. From there you can go up the road to the station and pick up the Petit Balcon Sud right across the road next to the Hotel. This will take you back down (well, up and down!) to Chamonix. Magic!
