Montroc & Le Tour

Chamonix Montroc
Beyond Argentiere, on the way to Le Tour lies the pretty hamlet of Montroc (1350m). Here you will find peace and tranquility in a very small village. In the summer there are some lovely walking trails covered with high alpine flora. If you are lucky you might meet a bouquetin or a marmotte in your travels.

Le Tour (1460m) or La Domaine du Balme is a traditional Savoyarde village situated 4km north-east of Argentiere, right at the top of the valley. It is overlooked by the spectacular Le Tour Glacier and offers a marvelous opportunity for walkers to sample a little high-altitude terrain without undue technical difficulty. Le Tour also offers some of the best views of Mont Blanc and the Chamonix Valley.

SKIING at Le Tour

Le Tour itself is a sleepy village right at the top of the Chamonix Valley. It boasts beautiful views of the Mont Blanc massif and also offers good skiing all season long.

There is a beginners area with button lifts at the base of Le Tour called the Vormaine which is great to get for children and beginners for skiing and snowboarding.

The main skiing is accessed by the bubble lift to the Charamillon chairlift, which serves a variety of rolling red and blue runs. There are also a number of gentle drag lifts. There is a mountain restaurant on this side of the ski area with amazing views down the Chamonix Valley.

Most of the off-piste skiing all happens off the Tete de Balme chairlift, which is on the Vallorcine side of the ski area. It allows the skier or boarder to drop off the back of the pass towards Vallorcine. The gondola lift from Vallorcine allows skiers to ski all the way down the the little sleepy town with a railway offering access back to Chamonix or a ride back up the gondola to ski back to the Le Tour side.

There are seemingly endless runs through the trees either on-piste of off-piste on this side, ideal for the the place to head when weather is bad, though watch for the moderate cliffs if you leave the marked slopes!
