The realization of a golf course in the Chamonix valley dates back to the 1930s. By request of the owners of hotels - Savoy, Alps, Simond - to satisfy the anglo-saxon clientele  spending the summer in Chamonix.

After a search for land suitable for the construction of a golf course, it iwas finally the site of Le Praz which has been retained by Mr. Lavaivre, then Mayor of Chamonix.

The golf course was opened in 1934 with four holes. The nine holes were completed the following year and inaugurated onJuly 20, 1935. The extension to 18 holes, difficult to achieve because of the land problems in the valley, was decided by the municipality in 1972.

After a few years devoted to acquisitions of land and the preliminary studies, the works were undertaken in 1977 and the 18 hole golf course was inaugurated on September 26, 1982. The new golf course and its equipment have been achieved thanks to the initiative and the determination of Mr. Maurice Herzog, then Mayor of Chamonix.
In effect, the latter wished to equip Chamonix of an 18-hole course of high level. It is thus that the design of the golf course was entrusted to the famous American architect, Robert Trent Jones Sr .
